Innovative District Heating Solutions

Challoch energy was appointed as the Technical Adviser to the Caerau District Heating Project in March 2018 as part of a team led by Hitachi Europe, providing an independent industry-led review of the feasibility of using former mine workings as a geo-thermal heat source for a district heating network.   The work include an assessment of the technical, economic and deliverability of the scheme.

The key deliverable comprised a techno-economic model testing a number of scenarios relating to the use of heat pumps giving a clear indication of which options would provide the best financial return to the connected users.

Further to this work, Challoch has been working on the development of the private wire connection between the local wind farm and the scheme in Caerau.
